Having learnt that this restaurant had won the best seafood restaurant in Australia in 2007, our expectations were very high as we visited. Having established itself in the redeveloped North Adelaide Village, the restaurant itself has a simple yet elegant decor. The service is friendly yet un-obtrusive with the staff showing a high degree of knowledge of the dishes served as well as of the ideal wine combinations. However the best thing about the restaurant is the food. We ordered a couple of entree dishes in addition to the main course. Every single dish that was presented to us was a triumph. Every mouthful was thouroughly enjoyed as the mixture of the quality and fresh seafood working in conjunction with the delicate and sophisticated flavours made dining here such a treat. And the final treat was when we received the bill. We have paid the same price when dining at good although 'nothing special' restaurants, so thus to think that for the same price you get to eat food which is so spectacular and presented with such flair, it just makes you feel so glad you ate here.
We visited Blanc Bistro and Grill recently - four of us for a special occasion. The location is a minor challenge but the free undercover parking made up for that. The staff were very friendly and seemed to have a great knowledge of (and passion for) their product. The food was very good. We had heard that the team had won the national Best Seafood Restaurant award so our expectations were very high - we were not disappointed. They had a great range of entrees and the mains and deserts were interesting, tasty, well priced and showed that the chef has real flair. We found the service to be well-paced and unobtrusive. We would definitely recommend this experience to people who want to sample some great "Australian" cuisine at a reasonable price.
Entree - Black pepper and lemon crust scallops Mains - Chilli Bug tails A seafood chef who hasn't lost his touch since first opening in Hutt Street. He handles his produce well. Nice tasty dishes. Good flavours with a sensitive application of East meets West cuisine. Beautiful setting and decor. Friendly but not overly formal service. Slight delay for mains. Extensive wine list. Wine by the glass and half bottles a bit more limited. Will dine there again.
No problems with the food here - all meals were really tasty and cooked properly. For what you're getting in terms of location, food and atmosphere this is good value as it's one of the least expensive seafood restaurants in Adelaide. Only problem with our visit was the "hit and miss" service. There were plenty of wait staff (we were served by four different people) but we still had to ask for water and bread and there was a bit of a lag to put in our food order and order second drinks. However, the staff were all friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and a requested menu change was no problem.
