Very nice setting overlooking Piccadilly Valley as the sun was setting on the rolling hills. Arrived and felt a little uncomfortable while the host kept us waiting, he seemed a little pre-occupied so I had to approach him to get his attention. Seated at a lovely 2 person table for Hb and myself. Unfortunately once we were seated a child at another table began screeeeming! Not the restaurants fault but not a way to wind down for the weekend on a Friday night. Menus were delivered promptly by a pleasant lass who was happy to explain a little history of the place when I asked. A glass of Adelaide Hill sparkling white wine which I was told came from a kilometer down the road was fairly ordinary. My Hb beer arrived cold and poured into an equally chilled glass. We started with a tasting plate for two $18pp. This comprised of two dips one of which was particularly salty, some lovely fresh smoked salmon, olives, meats, antipasto vegies, feta cheese, a good serving of lavosh and some other delights. A pleasant way to begin dinner. A glass each of Cabernet Savignon (Hb ordered unsure of winery) moderately young but a passable drop. Mains around $30 - 35 and sides $8- 10 Hb had the beef, cooked to his liking was accompanied with a few potatoes on a bed of ???mashed pumpkin. I had the confit of duck leg, cooked very well, crispy skin and moist. A side of rocket and orange salad was ordered to accompany the mains. Unfortunately the rocket was fairly tasteless, this may be that I was expecting wild rocket which has a delightful peppery taste? We did not indulge in dessert, however the choice was fairly tempting. Desserts around $17. We finished off with a flat white coffee each. Nice coffee, perhaps not hot enough and at $9 each fairly pricey. The service was adequate but nothing special. We went up to pay the bill as we were not wanting to linger, were shown an itemized bill which I believe is good practice. Perhaps what was not good for business is that he gave us $10 too much in the change. Overall pleasant but no need to sing it's praises to family or friends.
