The restaurant has recently undergone a renovation and the results are great. The restaurant has a modern minimalist interior which is pleasing to the eye, as are the large windows which invite the bustling Gouger Street precinct into the restaurant. The food is rather tasty altough the servings are small compared to other places. On the day we visited we found the waiting staff to be a little apathetic.
yeah KY chow..... KA- POW WOW..... this place rocks...... the food is beyond fabulous. so fresh, so tasty, just beautiful.... love it ,love it ,love it .
OMG This is even better Than last time I went Change of Name now E-Shan, The food is fantastic the serving sizes are huge and pricing is cheap LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT Even my 3 year old Love the Salt and Pepper Squid
I have had nothing but the best experiences at Ky Chow! I have been there a fair few times now and they always out do themselves! You Rock Ky Chow! Thanks for providing a quality dining experience for me, my family and friends everytime I visit Adelaide!
Best chinese food in adelaide. Food is quick, always good. Get in Get out. perfect place to eat if you're heading out somewhere.
We've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Great food at a reasonable price. Book ahead or be prepared to wait. Highly recommend the mixed Seafood Hotpot!
First ate at Ky Chow 4 days ago. Have been there 3 times now! For a vegetarian, food is awesome, cheap, fast service, delicious!! Can't go past the salt and pepper bean curd - OMG - YUM! Have only had take-away/eaten at outside tables. First time we went all outside tables were full so staff quickly set up another table for us outside. Can't believe how fast the service was despite how busy they were! Even carnivore bf loved the s & p bean curd!
The best dishes are amazing, though there's some variation with some rather bland ones. Crispy Sweet & Sour Beef is the best food-stuff ever conceived (more or less) :). Service is so-so on busy nights, but not terrible. Lack of carpet or soft wall hangings mean the place is always deafeningly loud. The tables are a little too tightly packed together. Prices are very inexpensive, especially considering quality and quantity. Highly recommended.
Some of the best Chinese food in Adelaide. Priced very competitively. Staff also very friendly and eager to help. Hard to review your bill at the end as its in chinese! But I trust them.
I like their food, It's fresh and tasty. It's usually hurried though, a great place for a quick dinner but not for a long cozy meal experience. I still like their food though and it's also reasonably priced...
Love love love it! Despite a packed restaurant the ever attentive staff actually whipped out a table and set a group of 8 of us up oin the footpathm right next to the Commonwealth ATM! Very helpful, food is always amazing - and amazing value - this place doesn't have legendary status for nothing.
First impressions were "Cafe" style ambience, which is confusing given the "Chinese" menu. Slices of giant Dim Sim for Entree, completely lacking in flavour, and somewhat dried out by the time it made it to my table. Followed the tip of the "Tiser" and ordered the duck, to discover a poorly presented plate of off-cuts covered lightly in a dark soy sauce. Very ordinary!!! Winner Winner chicken dinner, the Lemon chicken was unique, tasty unique that is. Certainly the best dish of the meal, and certainly in itself bringing up the standard of the meals delivered pior. The vegetarian menu appeared extensive and attractive, but based on my experience, certainly lacking flavour, quality and wow factor that you would expect for those prices.
While the new place looks great, the old version of Ky Chow was much better in terms of food, service and 'ambience' (aka being able to hear the person sitting next to you). Prices were better from memory too. The new place has a large range of familiar dishes and a reasonable drinks list. The entrees we selected were very poor (99% sure our dim sum were made from Spam!) but mains were ok. There's much better food on offer elsewhere on Gouger. Service was a bit slow too - when will wait staff realise that the $$ are made on drinks?! However, we were a very large table on a busy Saturday night and that probably should be taken in to some account. The biggest problem I had with the new Ky Chow is that with a bigger restaurant, the noise levels are just way too much. I won't be back.
Surroundings are better than average, service good unfortunately I came to eat and the squid was stodgy and quite plainly tough. Entrees came out with main therefore meal was cold by the end.
Try what we do. Go in and DON'T order your favourite dishes. Tell them to bring whatever they think would be good. We do this and we end up trying stuff that we'd never consider ordering from a menu. Last time, among other things, we got stir fried beans with garlic and chili. Loved it.
Went in for lunch, staff were slightly hostile but we had great expectations so we stayed. We all ordered four different meals and all of us were dissapointed. Lacked flavour and variety. My "Steamed chicken and vegetables" was a boney, cartlidge-filled chicken with skin and slime, and some bok choy. Couldn't stomach more than a few bites and I am the least fussiest eater I know (I'll even eat tripe!!) other dishes were also bland and awful. Even though the price was very reasonable, will not go back here!!
Food took forever to arrive. When it did, it was bland and overpriced for what you got. The restaurant has terrible acoustics. It is so noisy I couldn't even hear the person next to me when she spoke. Overall, won't be going back.
