The Star of Siam has all you need for a great Thai feed; very good service, excellent food and a nice atmosphere. The restaurant can get a little loud, but that's not unusal for any modern casual fit-out. The last time I visited, the staff coped well with our large, dis-organised party. The food is always extremely good and definitely never stingy with the serving sizes! The sea stars and the red duck curry are menu highlights.
A truly authentic Thai restaurant! I have very high expectations when it comes to food and Star of Siam definitely satisfied these high expectations of mine. Food was of high standard and service was impeccable! It's amazing how this restaurant keeps their prices so low for such fantastic food. I highly recommend their Pepper and Garlic Chilli Pork dish. It was a delightful one to have along with the many dishes I shared with my friends. For quality food with great value, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a place you'd come to if you're one who expects outstanding service along with great food. I must mention, there was this one waiter who caught my attention with his speedy service, politeness and the way he delivered the many dishes so quickly and professionally. I couldn't quite get his name but from reading the review below, it seems that this guy may just be Ramieson (previously mentioned in Perri Winkle's review). I wrote my number on a napkin and gave it to him but not sure whether he will call me anytime soon. Hopefully he will. Ramieson, if you're reading this, call me maybe ;)
Oh wow! This was truly a fantastic experience i had here. Not only was the food superb and the general atmosphere simply delightful, but i was served by the best waiter i have ever drunkenly stumbled acroos. I think his name was something like Ramieson or the like. I would rate his speed, agility and fast delivery of food unequateble. Althoug, he always seemed a bit wet when he returned form the kitchen as if he had been swimming or something mumbling something about "overboard"... A wonderful meal, a superlative night, and a new friend made. :)
This place rocks. Everything about it is so well done. The food is great across the board, the wine list extensive and moderately priced and the overall value for money outstanding. We enjoyed two of the specials amongst numerous other dishes. The barramundi with green mango was succulent and sweet, while the deep fried soft shell crab was the best I've ever tasted. And all of the other traditional Thai dishes we ordered were enjoyed immensely. The service was just right with all the waiters and waitresses friendly and attentive. As a visitor from out of town I can't wait to come back to Adelaide to visit SOS again.
Food here was great! I have high standards of Thai food and this definitely scores high. I went there with my mates from school. We ordered for Entrees the Sea Star, Pho-Pei Toad (Spring rolls) and the Charcoal Squid as I am delighted to say that there were excellent. The Sea Stars melted in your mouth and the squid was cooked to perfection. The Spring rolls were also fantastic except a little bit overcooked. For Mains we ordered Pad Thai, Moo-Yang (Marinated Pork) and I ordered the Barramundi with Sweet and Sour Chili Sauce. The Barramundi was fantastic, cooked perfectly, just a little to generous with the Sweet and Sour sauce. The Moo-Yang was extremely tender and the Pad Thai was of a high standard. The ambiance was comfortable only a little cramped on the tables as there was four of us. Service was phenomenal, we got our meals and entrees in about 10 minutes of ordering them. Value was extremely good, only $15 for Pad Thai and $25 for the fish. This restaurant is a definite must for all Thai lovers, you will not be disappointed.
Star of Siam always produces great food at a reasonable price. The dishes are of a consistently high standard. I recommend the Miang Pla as an entree, and the drunken seafood and choo chee prawn or chicken as a main. Delicious!
star of Siam is always fantastic. never had a bad meal here. i just wish they would do a tom kha gai, tis my fav, but nevertheless there is so much to choose from and it's all mouth watering and delicious. i love this place. if you haven't tried i suggest you do so. you will love it also.
This amazing temple to all things culinary keeps me coming back time after time. The impeccable service from a mysterious young man named Ramo and a subtle nautical theme makes this an experience that you can't miss out on. It's the little things like the metallic rasp of the Indonesian fishing boat motor and the smell of the Arafura Sea that takes it to another level. Dash, it makes me sail away to a better place.
good stuff, reccommend this place for lunches during the week. Authentic thai at great value. Serves are big and the atmosphere great!
A group of work colleagues and I visited Star of Siam for lunch and were pleased to discover that in addition to their a la carte menu featured on webmenu.com.au, they also offer a separate lunch menu. The lunch menu offers a selection of curries and stir fried dishes accompanied by rice and an array of noodle dishes. Our shared feast consisted of a couple of a la carte entrees and noodles, and two items from the lunch menu. The spring rolls and sea stars were delicious, as usual, and the lunch menu gave the opportunity to try new dishes without breaking the budget. Star of Siam is definitely on the higher end of the scale of lunch spots on the street, which is reflected both in quality and price. But the experience is well worth the added cost.
I choose number 4 on the lunch menu and it was brilliant :D
I discovered Star of Siam a few months ago and its now a personal favourite amongst myself and my friends. The food is delicious and the servings are so big that I share with a friend, so we save big time!! The service is a little odd at times but the lady who tops up glasses of water is always on the ball. Highly recommended.
My partner and I had dinner there last night and it was a great evening. The place has a good vibe to it on a Friday night, buzzy and fun. We had the entree called sea star to start and that was delicious. The service was fantastic and our waiter was more than helpful. I had the Thai Green Curry for my main, the serve was huge, although very tasty the curry was not hot (spicy hot) enough for me, to me a true green curry is very spciy but in saying that though the flavour was lovely. Going back to the serving size, actually all the serves are very generous, we struggled to finished all the food and we are pretty big eaters. I would definatly go back in the future.
Great food at very reasonable price. The soft shell crab is to die for!
Really nice thai food. Great lunch menu. Can get a little loud inside at times, and sometimes you feel a little squished, but the service staff are very efficient and friendly and the food is always delicious, hot and fresh! Their coconut rice is delish!
Beautiful Thai food but don't go there for quiet relaxing meal. Lots of people, tables close together, quite noisy. However it is worth it for the food.
The fish cakes and sea star as entrees left me speechless - I fell in love! Absolutely delicious food and definitely will be going back!! You get what you pay for and that is excellent fresh food.
Star of Siam is the ultimate place to dine. Everytime I have been - the food has been exception, the service is efficient and if you split the bill between you & friends it works out to be a good deal. I can't say a bad word about the place. I just love it!
Great authentic Thai food. Very good lunch specials too. The entree salads are just exquisite, especially if you like your salads and food clean and without fat or oil. They are really fresh. Having said that, I think it is slightly over priced and over rated for dinner. There are some other lovely Thai restaurants on Gouger, eg. Lim & Lemon which cooks equally good food, but is overshadowed by the reputation of Star of Siam. It's popular haunt for professionals!
Beautiful food but they need to space it out a bit! your packed in like a tin of sardines and you cant hear anyone at your table its to loud in there! But I love the spring rolls and penang tofu!
Excellent food, namely the satay sauce, choo chee curry and spring rolls. However the dining room lacks friendly atmosphere. Definitely a MUST VISIT if you like good Thai food!
Great food and fabulous service.
food is excellence, but service is not that good. The table is placed too closed to each other, not comfortable when eating.
Hmmm this place doesn't overly excite me. Lots of people rave about here as the best Thai in Adelaide - it's totally fine - but not wow. Lime Lemon a few metres away is just as good and cheaper. Tongue Thai'd on HB Road or Tanapa at the Bay are far better.
just wanna get jamie straight.. not hungry? dont come out and eat.. we take forever to book the place and would do watever to get in. ppl like u are the one they dont want, waste of time, service and spot. do not judge them.. they are always busy and they couldnt careless.. 1 main course is common sense really, wat were u ppl doing?
Apparently, Star of Siam on Gouger is not a baby friendly restaurant, wont let my boy have his food inside! not recomended for young family!!!
Great food. However, the service was rather unsatisfying. The middle aged waitress that served our table was really rude. Me and 6 friends of mine ordered 5 main courses as we weren't very hungry at that point of time, but the waitress wasn't very happy with us and said the restaurant would expect each customer to ordered at least 1 main course. wtf when de food arrived, she place them on our tables rudely. after we finished our food, she was shoo-ing us away. Such service is a real shame for a high end Thai restaurant.
I went there tonight. One of the waitresses (older - maybe the co-owner) who served us was rude. We have a 5yo child whom we had to get food from elsewhere. The waitress made a scene + refused to allow our child to hv her food, but later relented when she cried. There was a grp of 5 of us so, it's not as if we were simply using their table. When we finished our mains, we were not even asked whether we wanted anything else, we were simply given (before we asked) the bill. The service was appalling. I dine out regularly + never hv I experienced anything like this. The food was largely mediocre too. Avoid the satay sauce - it's horrible pinkish stuff. To be fair, the barramundi we had was nice but the description given was different from what was served. I'm definitely not going there again.
Most revolting food that I have tasted in 20 years - duck curry mainly veges in coconut and tomato paste based soup. Had to leave in a real hurry as felt quite sickened. Don't waste your money.
