As a resident of Henley Beach, Stirling is quite a trek, though I was very impressed and glad I made the journey. Granted lunch at the famed Stirling Hotel wasn't my only reason to venture east, but after reading the reviews it had already received, I was keen to try it once in the area. I must admit I didn't have anything too daring; choosing instead to answer my craving for chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. The chicken was crispy but still moist inside, the sauce thick and flavorful, full of juicy mushrooms; everything a schnitzel with mushroom sauce should be! Also ordered on the table was the burger with chilli jam and a parmigiana - no complaints. We ate outside; enjoying the bustle of the hotel and serenity of the quiet street. I Would definitely go back to the Stirling should I be in the area!

awesome food in both the bistro and the restaurant. never had a bad meal here. Salt and pepper squid is great in the bistro as is the prawn pasta in the restaurant. Service is friendly and quick. only drawback is you can't book in the bistro!

Dropped in as we had been driving through the lovely Adelaide Hills. I had lunch with my Hb and his mother. For a very busy day in the restaurant the service was good, the bar staff pleasant and added a little flair to the service. I want to particularly highlight my main course. Octopus with green mango salad. This dish was to die for and the best salad I can remember eating. Octopus & Green Mango Salad cucumber, nahm jim, peanuts, crisp anchovies, mizuna. Sensational, cannot recommend highly enough.

The Stirling is always great, although sometimes a bit too packed. You can't book for the Bistro, but the exceptionally capable staff always get you there in the end and a few brews while you wait aren't a bad thing! The food is always tip-top, caters for a wide range of tastes and meals don't usually require that irritating side-order of veg. Classic schnitters and burgers are perfectly done and the rest of the mains list hasn't turned up a dud yet. Don't forget to order a serve of the garlicly pizza bread too - fantastic. But even though the food is enough to make the Stirling a winner, it's the great service that's a stand-out; highly professional staff of a caliber unexpected in a pub. Can't go wrong at the Stirling!

I stopped at the Stirling Hotel for a mid-week lunch recently. It has a beautiful fit out, but I can't help but feel that the food could be cheaper if there were 90% less plasmas. A comfortable space in any season & good food. Friendly people, but table service would be a nice touch. Definitely recommended when in the area, but I'd book if visiting on a weekend.

I must admit to a slight bias to begin with, living in Stirling and about 500m from the hotel it is my 'local'. Having said that I can objectively and whole heartedly recommend the Bistro and Mallee Grill Restaurant. We visit the Bistro for dinner or lunch at least once a week, sometimes more because of the sheer consistency and quality of the food. It is actually quite remarkable how consistent it is. The menu doesn't get amended very often so you get a fair amount of time to become familiar with a dish and it never seems to deviate from one week to the next. Considering how manic it can get in the Bistro it is very impressive. Not being able to book in the Bistro (you can in the Mallee Grill) and the popularity of it can lead to some hungry, slightly frustrated and disappointed patrons whilst they join 'the waiting list'. Getting there earlier and finding a table rather arriving during the peak eating times makes for a far more comfortable experience. Having experienced the hotel under previous ownership the current owners deserve a lot of credit for their renovations. They haven't cut many corners and clearly spent a lot of money extending and upgrading the premises. Somehow, without conspicuously passing this expense on to patrons. It simultaneously appeals as an affordable local and a 'destination' pub where people come for a day out of the metro area. The pokies are at the opposite end of the building, completely out of sight unless you seek them out which is a refreshing change for a modern SA pub. The Mallee Grill is fantastic and well suited to evening dining with wine. The food here is equally consistent and only slightly more expensive despite the atmosphere suggesting otherwise. Overall, a great place that thoroughly deserves the level of patronage it gets. It never lets you down no matter what you are going there for, be it quick meal, fine food, a glass of wine outside or several imperial pints watching the football.

Fantastic hotel. Breakfast and dinner in the bistro is really good, but can be noisy if packed! Restaurant is great. Try the steak, it's mouthwatering and arguably one of the best I've had. Salt and pepper squid also delicious. Kids meals in the restaurant are fit for adult consumption - well presented, good quality and delicious. Not the usual fried nuggets and chips you seem to find everywhere else! Our kids were impressed.

busy, busy ,busy! dined on a monday night, and it was packed, unusual when a lot vof resaurants choose to close, excellent food, had the special 'burger, partner chose the platter for two , to share with our guest. large choice of cold beer, and wines by the glass, just a short trip up the freeway to alexander downer country, but we wont hold that against against the restaurant !!
