Have dined here many times for special occasions and always found the food and service were excellent. However our last visit, our first wedding anniversary, was quite ordinary. We asked for a seat by the window and were told they were all reserved (we booked a week in advance). We arrived for the 6.30 pm sitting as we like to watch the sunset. By the time we finished our meal we were annoyed to notice that there were still vacant tables by the window. Our waiter was sweating quite profusely on his face, wore ill fitting trousers and did not look me in the eye, but lower! Nowhere near the quality of polite friendly and faultless service we have received in the past. Two of our of choies of food did not seem to match the description on the menu, some things left off or substituted. Received an arrogant answer when I commented on this. It is a pity we experienced this however, I am sure will give them a another chance but two strikes and your gone.
As a person who eats out quite a bit, I was pleasantly surprised with the value and professionalism of this restaurant. For a restaurant of this calibre, the prices were very reasonable and the service exemplary, right from walking in the door and being greeted by a friendly chap through to the non intrusive table service and warm departure inviting us to come back again. The food was exquisite and not too intimidating with some very 'comfortable' dishes as well as some nice left field specials. All round a great night out. Definately a recommendation for all and will be back very soon!
Went there for my Birthday a few years ago, thoroughly enjoyed it, they do the best oysters kilpatrick, never used to like them, but after having them here, what can I say they were spectacular to say the least now I'm a fan. I've been there on a few more the food is always spectacular, pity the coke was flat, & it was the coke out of the bottle, even the replacement bottle was flat, must've been a faulty batch. Even that didn't detract from the evening, everyone enjoyed the evening & the food so much we didn't want the night to end! Will definitely keep coming back.
My husband always books us a table each anniversary. We have been going to Windy Point now for 6 years and they have never disappointed us with their service or their menu. The view from our table is unbeatable. If we could we would dine there once every week of the year.

A little expensive, but I won't complain as it was 5 star service all the way. We were well looked after, menu was extremly excellent, staff were very friendly, views were stunning, the food was so tasty and the staff's recommendations were wonderful!
Went for dinner on a late 21:15 booking yesterday. Nice table, excellent service, very good food, very good wine selection, overall good value for money at $200 for two including deserts and wine. If you book early enough to get a "window" table you will enjoy a beautiful view over Adelaide. Very nice place for a romantic dinner.
Windy Point Restaurant has a view that is simply unmatched, possibly unmatchable in Adelaide. The panoramic windows and table layout provide an incredible backdrop to a fantastic dining experience. There is sufficient formality in the service and atmosphere to let you know that this isn't just another restaurant and that you are in for a treat. The meals are consistently delicious and have flavour that belies the portion. One dish that I must have when I visit is the roast chateaubriand of beef. It is exactly the way beef should be. The wine list has a great diversity and the staff are completely on top of it, even being able to recommend new labels that have only just arrived and aren't on the list yet. Their matching advice has always been spot on. The restaurant clearly places a big emphasis on the service quality, we have never had the same person twice between visits and they are consistently excellent. We have also spent a New Years there and sitting at the table watching the various fireworks going off over the metro area as it ticked over midnight was very special indeed. For any special occasion Windy Point Restaurant has become the default location for us as it always matches, if not regularly exceeds our expectations.
Oh what a view! Food and service was great too. Highly recommend the Poached Ocean Trout and Baked Lemon Cheesecake.
My favourite Adelaide restaurant. Perfect (romantic) ambience with wonderful city-lights view,excellent cuisine, and charming service. Parking is a plus!
I recently had a lovely time here. They had a great menu making it very difficult to choose, and the food was lovely. They also brought out a special chocolate surprise for my birthday! A little pricey, but would definately return again for a special occassion.
Went here to propose to my girlfriend. Probably the best views from any restaurant in Adelaide. All aspects of this venue are what one would expect for the premium price tag. Our 3 course meal + drinks cost around $250 in total but it was a worthy investment for a special night. Truly memorable experience.
Have been to Windy point on Several occasions. I think it is a great resturant with lovely food and of course a great view. Will certainly be eating there again in the near future.
my girl friend and i went there on a friday night, had booked at midday and believe lucky to get in...got there spot on 8.00pm as booked...got told we had to wait for table to come available...we sat at the bar for 30mins not knowing what was going on, only to have 2 others couples walk in after us and get seated...the chap at the door had forgotten about us and was not very accommodating...not the friendly greeting you expect from a restaurant like this... but, we did get good seats, the food was brilliant as was the wine...the service at the table was good, but did think it was a touch overpriced... have to be special to get me back there...
Loved the decor and the service was attentive and spot on. I had roasted pork belly with tempura deep fried scallops and a chutney for entree (I don't care who says that combination is old and tired, I love it!) and Pork Brik wrapped in Quail wrapped in Proscuitto with a gruyere and mushroom pie. The entree I could eat forever. It was mouth-blowing. The main fell over with the sauce, it was a little bit too salty and with the proscuitto the whole thing ended up hard to eat due to the saltiness. The gruyere and mushroom pie was brilliant though. We topped it off with a bird in hand sparkling pinot noir. Will go back for special occasions.
Location superb, food great, value excellent(thanks to festival of food), seated too closely to others in a large room on a quiet night, and, horror of horrors, a constantly sniffing waiter!!!
We had the Kangaroo and Wagyu Beef main meals...both wonderful meals. The setting a bit down played as a result of the staff not being ready for us when we arrived....we were sent to the bar to wait, which was not appropriate as we were driving, not being driven, so could not drink!!
great venue with amazing views and well laid out restaurant and service. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food - the entre was excellent but bot our mains were as if they had come from a different restaurant and were overcooked and dry and not even cafe standard. I cook better at home..... Overall a great experience but let down by the food. It was our wedding anniversary and they prepared a special desert for us which was very thoughtful.
One of our group on Sat had to leave early and part paid the bill with AMEX. They paid more then they had to because of a 2.5% surcharge for use of the card. Fine. ONLY when the rest of the group went to pay we were lumped with an extra $14.90 because management saw fit to put the surcharge on the whole bill not just the amount paid to the card.2.5% more like a 13% charge on the card use which they did not explain to the person using the card in the first place! . As nobody else used AMEX I find this outrageous business practice to get extra money when the meals are premium cost already. DINERS BEWARE!!! PS note the restaurant did come to the party in the end and has refunded the excess amount of $12.15 by cheque.
Are people getting too dazzled with the view? We had a salad with 'pumpkin and asparagus' that had one small piece of asparagus and brown pea shaped things we think might have been the pumpkin served on bitter cabbage. The fish was not properly cooked and served on a disgusting large bed of mayo. Yuck. The tastless souffle had fallen and the 'honey and melon' wasn't a flavour, but served next to it in tiny bedpan- shaped dishes. Our friends said the steak was too small, etc. etc. Not one of the eight people was happy yet it cost $105 a person with no coffees or after-dinner drinks and minimal wine. The service is great but the food is terrible.
Treated my girlfriend to a night out here and safe to say she was deeply impressed. The food was cooked too perfection, the view and tranquility of the room was perfectly balanced, and the service was fantastic, personal, but not over intrusive, and very attentive. Comparing this to resturants of the same calibre in the CBD, I would definately reccommend windy, certainly lives up to its reputation!!
While the food was very good, One of our international guests was served a well presented, although a little underdone for "medium" steak. Within the beef portion was a sizable, thick and unedible fat "grissle" vein. The observation of this may have been "missed" by the chef. Upon attempting consumption of the meat, and struggling to seperate the meat from the fat (it was not possible), our guest advised the maitre de, Joe. Joe was very Flipant and dismissive in his "excuses" , making statements such as, "that is how they come sometimes" and "cut around it madam" and " because of this you have a larger size portion than advertised" That one was a wee hard to swallow as the grissle vein was not evident on initial presentation. What ever happened to the customer being right, I thought we were paying the bill. Admittedly, later, the maitre de presented our guest with a side plate with a little portion of porterhouse steak upon it. This appeared to be in response to our expressions of our displeasure with his arrogant and less than professional manner. This distracted from what probable have benn an enjoyable dining experience
I was really looking forward to the evening at Windy Point - three stars in the Adelaide Good Food Guide and rave reviews from friends who have been there recently. It all started well with the Maitre d' seating us, taking our drinks order and telling us that our waiter, X, would be over shortly, and it went downhill from there. We never found out who X was because we served by four different waiters, none of whom took charge of our service. So, when we sent our G and T's back because the tonic had run out in the post mix (don't flash restaurants use bottled tonic?) it took ten minutes for the new drinks to arrive. We had to chase somebody to place our wine order which arrived after our entrees. The wine was then put out of reach. If you're going to do this, you have to make sure that nobody's glass ever empties. Well, ours did. The next door table actually went so far as to move their bottle onto their table. We waited a full hour between finishing entree and receiving main and I am pretty sure that they forgot to order a taxi because we waited an hour for that too. The food was fair to middling - two courses of fish over cooked and the wine list is far from exciting. $150 for food plus wine... not even close to being worth it.
Fantastic view of the beautiful city of Adelaide however a poorly presented restaurant, average food and service for the outrageous pricing. Hopefully an improvement can be made with the quality of service (non rushed waiters!!!) and established chefs who know exactly what they're cooking and producing for the guest!!!
We also are people who enjoy eating out often during the week. Unfortunately Windy Point was a great disappointment this evening.This was the worst meal we have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Both the meat and fish mains were overly salty and the passion fruit-lime crepes overly sweet. To add insult we were overcharged without an apology. Absolutely appalling. The staff really need assistance with appropriately focused customer service - a glass of wine or water required a request by having to flag down a waiter. Even the view could not make up for such disappointing service and food. Do not waste your time or money here - go to Auge or Red Ochre!
