A word from Bistro Vue

Inspired by the turn of the century back street Parisian bistro, Bistro Vue offers the very best of classical French fare. With its informal yet stylish ambience, Bistro Vue is perfect for all manner of occasions - perch at the bar for a plate of shucked to order oysters and a pernod; graze over a selection of cheese from our trolley; linger over lunch of 'moules and frites'; or tuck in for dinner of pork cheek cassoulet and garlic sausage. The menu is the same for both lunch and dinner with a special 'Plat Du Jour' available on a daily basis. The wine list is concise but well selected. Reservations are recommended however try your luck for a spot at the bar or in the courtyard. For further enquiries please call +61 3 9691 3838.

As a visitor to Melbourne I was keen to try at least one of Shannon Bennett's famed restaurants; my disorganisation excluded Vue De Monde but I was ecstatic to find that Bistro Vue could fit us in. We were welcomed warmly and immediately seated in a booth table, despite not having a booking. Service was friendly and attentive and more than willing to humor our ignorance when it came to French bistro style dining. What was to be a fantastic meal began with a pissaladiere and french onion soup. I then had the lamb wellington which amazing, the lamb and pastry both perfectly cooked and tender beyond belief, my partner had roast hare; amazing flavour and cooked to tender. After two amazing courses, the perfect, rich chocolate souffle was the only way to end the meal. We left warm, full and happy. I will be sure to return when next in Melbourne.

I love this place, but I also love French food so much. I love nothing more than to sink my teeth into a lovely Steak Frite with perfect glaze.

Great location and view. Food really good and service great although we did not receive a napkin wich was awkward given that you are encouraged to use your fingers to eat. We experienced the degustation option. Don't do the wine match. $250 per head for a splash of wine is simply over the top. There was not enogh wine to enjoy with each dish and the wines were not that special. I think if two people can drink $500 of wine and are still able to legally drive home, the value just ain't there! Anyway, the food was special and fantastically presented. The roasted marron was brilliant. Undecided if we will return but if we do, I will spend my $500 wine allocation on a couple of bottles of wine and not the wine match.
